Attention Deficit Disorder is a developmental disability. The defining features of ADD or ADHD are:
- Impulsivity and
- Hyperactivity (ADHD).
These ingredients surface in school as the following:
- Being out of seat
- Talking too much
- Being off-task
- Erratic productivity
- Trouble interacting with others
- Making transitions, and
- Organizing multi-step tasks.
There are many behavioral and medications interventions that can be effective in improving children’s and adult’s ADD/ADHD conditions. Working to improve the skill areas of organization, problem-solving, time management, focusing, executive functions are effective cognitive skill approaches that work. Adopting these skills early in the game can prevent much chaos and disappointment later on in life.
As a child therapist and counselor I have a great deal of experience helping children with ADD.
